Live! dat Santana samen met drummer Buddy Miles in 1972 uitbracht wordt bestempeld als een van de beste live rockalbums van dat jaar. Een heerlijk rockalbum overgoten met de latin klanken van Santana. Love Devotion Surrender is van een hele andere orde. Op dit album dat uitgebracht werd in 1973, hoor je Santana samen met John McLaughlin. Dit album gaat veel meer de richting van de jazz en heeft een spiritueel tintje. Het album was een eerbetoon aan John Coltrane.
